Today marked the first ever episode of Drew and Shannon Live, which effectively serves as the replacement for Select Live which previously broadcast on C4. Here’s a mini-review of each of the main features of the show:
The set: This portion felt slightly underwhelming to be honest. It felt sort of echo-ey and more empty than that of Select Live (despite having more presenters).
The idents: Very impressed with these – they fit the theme of the show and give a good impression. The main intro was pretty awesome too.
The music: Makes it feel like it’s Select Live just without the viewer decision-making. It is nice to have some music on FOUR, however.
The repeats: I think it’s a great idea having it repeat on C4 later in the evening – it meant I was able to record it on C4 and actually review it! Thumbs up in my opinion.
The entertainment news: Pretty good, although it felt slightly random today. Perhaps it’s just one of those things that will improve over time.
Overall, congratulations Mediaworks on the first ever Drew and Shannon Live! Looking forward to what’s coming up in future editions; although I’ll have to watch it at 7:30pm on C4 due to work commitments.
Hmmm, maybe it is something that you have to get use to…I think Drew is far better on his own, or maybe it is that this combo does not work. Shannon is good but she needs to provide far wittier comments or some information that people can relate or interact with. Alot of cringe moments, but again maybe it just needs time.
Sorry, but don’t agree with you Jane. I think that they are good together. Sure, Shannon is less experienced and it does show, but working with Drew is going to be good for her and it gives him someone to bounce off. Give it time. Don’t be too judgmental too soon.
I think it’s ultimately going to be one of those things that it takes time for people to adjust to. I’m sure when Select Live first started out with Joel Defries that people didn’t exactly warm to it – I know I didn’t to be honest; found it a bit strange and different with a host on a show like that. It’ll be interesting to see how it goes 6 months, or even a year from now.
I did warm to Joel Defries eventually. He must have proven to be popular, given that they gave him his own primetime show – Live at Yours. Speaking of old C4 shows, the theme of going back to its roots could be taken to a new level – how about bringing back the shows which launched the channel. I’m talking The Holla Hour, Intellectual Property, Freestyle, The A List, The Soundlab, Amp’d and Flashbacks. Obviously they wouldn’t be hosted as C4′s budget has dramatically decreased (no advertising or website anymore) but it would be good to see these genre-based shows back again. I was thinking 9pm nightly after Drew & Shannon Live.
Yeah, I did too – thought he was a great presenter. It was the same when Jermaine stepped onto the scene. Often, new presenters just take a while to adapt to.
That would be an awesome idea! They could have them as ‘What’s the Theme’ segments with custom branding and what not. I’d love to see a Flashbacks equivalent today – love watching old music videos!
who has been dressing you lately shannon, your grandma?
What she’s wearing is what’s in fashion, she’s still a massive hottie. It’s been a lot less entertaining without Drew though, can’t wait for him to get back the week after next.
