Maori Television is to host a twelve hour global telethon in May to raise funds for the Christchurch recovery effort.Rise-Up Christchurch will be broadcast from Christchurch, Auckland and Wellington with live crosses across the country and with activities in London, Los Angeles and Sydney, on May 22.

TV personalities Carol Hirschfeld, Pippa Wetzell and Mike McRoberts joined sportsman Hamish Carter and musician Jason Kerrison at the event’s announcement in Auckland today.

Expat celebrities who have committed to the telethon include Rachel Hunter, Anna Paquin and Martin Henderson.

Also at the announcement was Mark Weldon, who is leading the Government’s Christchurch Earthquake Appeal and Fonterra chief executive Andrew Ferrier.

All money raised from the telethon will go to the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal.

The telethon will run from 9am to 9pm.

This is a fantastic event, and especially viable after the success of the telethon screened by TV3 for Kidscan. Get amongst it, and support the cause!

The telethon screens May 22nd, from 9am to 9pm on Maori Television.
