Sky News New Zealand made the announcement yesterday that Alistair Wilkinson, currently a part of the senior news staff at 3 News, will be making the jump to Sky News as news director.

From dannews.co.nz:

SKY NEWS NEW ZEALAND today announced a new leadership team with two senior executive appointments.

Highly regarded journalist and broadcaster Alistair Wilkinson joins SKY NEWS NEW ZEALAND as News Director, and Executive Producer Todd Symons has been promoted to Channel Manager.

Alistair Wilkinson joins SKY NEWS from TV3 where he was a senior journalist and presenter.

His new role will see him lead the editorial team as well contributing on air.

Wilkinson said: “The way people get their news is changing fast, and SKY NEWS is at the cutting edge of that change. I’m excited to be joining a team of professionals who are so passionately committed to delivering 24 hour news.”

Wilkinson has more than 15-years experience in the New Zealand news business as a reporter, presenter and producer. While at TV3, Wilkinson also spent time with the highly regarded news program 60 Minutes.

I personally enjoyed watching Alistair Wilkinson on 3 News, and I think his absence will be very much noticed, given how he often filled in on the weekends and during the week as an anchor. All the best in your new role Alistair!
