New look for TV2

TV2 received a significant ident overhaul at midnight on Sunday January 1st, 2012.

The new idents look a tad FOUR-esque and seem to lack the energy of the previous idents. With the emergence of larger screen TV’s, it would make more sense to utilise brighter, more visually appealing (and even complex) idents instead of these, which showcase the bare essentials. The font colours used for promos and the PRG lack contrast (when the colour is not white), which in turn affects readability; although the font itself is very clean and expressive.

The bumper, which separates the programme from the ad break as it transitions to the latter, lacks excitement. A simple fade out is a huge step down from the delightful zoom-in from the old style idents.

The video promos for the station, however, have beautiful music, are nice and simple, and are a prime example of how simplicity can work well, even if the rest of the ident components are an example of the opposite.

Not TVNZ’s best; hopefully they jazz them up over time, even if they do so subtly.
